Tapaus Breivikiä pohtineiden shokeeraavien pika-analyysien hiljalleen hävitessä päivälehdistöstä, kattavammat analyysit siitä, kuka Breivik oli, mitä hän uskoi ja miksi hän toimi alkavat yleistyä. Ensimmäinen on englantilaisen tutkimusinstituutti RUSI:n sivuilla oleva kattava kirjoitus Anders Breivikin mielentilasta, ja siitä kuinka hän lopulta oli laskelmoiva, äärimmilleen radikalisoitunut terroristi. Robert Lambert, joka luennoi mm. Exeterin ja St. Andrewsin yliopistoissa, toteaa tapauksesta seuraavaa:

”While the explanations and rationalisations of those who commit acts of terrorism and political violence should never be taken at face value still less should they be disregarded in favour of analyses that propose an unrealistic and opposing interpretation of their actions. Experts and commentators who promote Breivik’s insanity and psychological susceptibility to violence so as to help explain his dramatic departure from the conventions of civilised society seek to impose an analysis that ignores Breivik’s attachment to terrorist tactics. Taking account of both the meticulous planning that went into his ’necessary’ act of terror and the extraordinarily detailed rationale contained in his published ’manifesto’ it becomes possible to understand the political nature of his violence.”

Toinen lukemisen arvoinen artikkeli on ”I Read Odd Books” -nimisessä blogissa ilmestynyt analyysi Breivikin manifestista, keskittyen sen sisältämiin salaliittoteorioihin ja norjalaisen Fjordmanin ajatusten rooliin. Vaikka artikkelin kirjoitustyyli ja sisältö on kaukana akateemisesta, se tuo ilmi muutamia mielenkiintoisia ja valitettavan harvalle itsestäänselviä ajatuksia vastajihadistisesta ideologiasta. Loppukaneetti on huomioimisen arvoinen, ja se on hyvä lähtökohta keskusteluun vastajihadistiliikkeen laajemmasta radikalisaatiopotentiaalista:

”People who bloviate about conspiracy theory mainly want to be believed, and belief in the theory, the comaraderie of being among people whom you think are not deluded and see the world as you see it is one of the heady reasons conspiracy theory will never go away. It is comforting to have others who believe as you do, and there is a lovely sense of arrogance wherein all those people know they are right and the others are wrong. This arrogance fuels endless debates, it fuels political action, and when those arrogant folk throw around violent, urgent rhetoric that offers no peaceful recourse, they should not be surprised when someone who believes them takes action.”
